Her Vision
Behind the Camera & Beyond
Sheena on set — behind the camera
Throughout her journey, Sheena has worn many hats behind the scenes, serving as a writer, camera operator, director, producer, and editor. Being a self-taught, hands-on creative has allowed her to understand the filmmaking process from every angle.
While she values every skill she has developed, her ultimate goal is to focus on her greatest passion: directing powerful stories that leave a lasting impact.
Through EmpowerHer Cinema, Sheena is committed to creating opportunities for underrepresented voices, particularly Black women and the LGBTQ+ community, while building a platform where authentic storytelling can thrive.
Every production under EmpowerHer Cinema has been independently funded — a true reflection of Sheena's dedication, sacrifice, and belief in her vision. As the company continues to grow, donations, sponsorships, and community support are always welcomed and deeply appreciated.
I didn't wait for someone to give me an opportunity. I picked up a camera, wrote my own stories, and started creating them. My journey is proof that you don't need permission to pursue your passion.— Sheena Lanier, Founder of EmpowerHer Cinema
